Demolition Contractor Fined $150,000 for Violating Asbestos Removal Regulations
By WEINSTEINCOUTURE | Published: AUGUST 2, 2012
The property owner, Adam Mack of Wilton Recycling originally hired Ryan Blyther to perform the demolition work. However, Blyther failed to provide Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulated asbestos gear for his employees and failed to implement proper asbestos handling procedure.
Blyther’s employees reported the violations to OSHA and Mack was left with the consequences.
Asbestos fibers are a known cause of mesothelioma, a deadly cancer that once diagnosed, typically claims the lives of its victims within a year.
Because of his blatant disregard for the regulations and hazards surrounding asbestos, Blyther faces more than $150,000 in OSHA fines for workplace safety violations. Blyther and Mack may also face fines from the state of Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Unlike Blyther, Mack has stayed by the project to ensure timely completion and meet health regulations.

Develop Treatments at New UK Mesothelioma Tissue Bank
Develop Treatments at New UK Mesothelioma Tissue Bank.
By WEINSTEINCOUTURE | Published: AUGUST 9, 2012
SURVIVING MESOTHELIOMA reports that this tissue bank, which is solely dedicated toMESOTHELIOMA, will provide essential tissue and clinical information to be used by doctors and researchers to develop treatments and hopefully a cure.
Mesobank UK will house tumor cell samples collected from mesothelioma patients as well as blood and clinical data so that all experiments, including those requiring fresh samples, may be conducted. Along with having samples at its centralized storage, Mesobank UK will collaborate with a group of doctors and scientists across the UK to provide mesothelioma cell lines and receive tissue and blood samples.
An aggressive cancer, mesothelioma is known to quickly claim its victims once a patient is diagnosed. Exposure to asbestos through asbestos products, or otherwise, causes mesothelioma. Having been neglected in terms of cancer research focusing on treatments and cures, mesothelioma has no known cure.
